An augmented reality experience to relive the history of Mont Saint Michel

Summary

The Musée des Plans-reliefs in Paris has a model of Mont Saint Michel built for King Louis XIV. This model, made between 1701 and 1709, is one of the centerpieces of the museum, which houses scale reproductions of ancient strongholds, fortresses and towns. These models, formerly reserved only for the king and his staff, are true works of art in cardboard, papier-mâché, metal and silk. That of Mont Saint Michel is considered the flagship of this unique collection and now offers a spatio-temporal experience in augmented reality leading from the foot of the wall to the spire of the abbey.




Rediscover the history of Mont Saint Michel in augmented reality

This experience is the result of a collaboration with Microsoft and the museum and is available with a HoloLens augmented reality headset. This 12-minute space-time journey brings the famous rock to life and its medieval town overlooked by the abbey church. The spectators will thus be able to visualize holograms animating the mountain but also of plans and sections, a visualization of the underground rooms.

This experience allows to visualize the evolution of the famous Mont Saint Michel through history. and discover the secrets around the model made by the monks of the abbey and offered to King Louis XIV in 1709. The experience is available at the Musée des Plans-reliefs de Paris which is located in the Hôtel des Invalides in the seventh arrondissement. The exhibition which started on October 11 will be available until January 14, 2019. Count 12 euros for the full price and 10 euros for the reduced price. Note that, given the limited number of augmented reality headsets, it is best to make a reservation here.
