Sony to almost double its catalog of PS VR games in 2018

After having sold 2 million PlayStation VR virtual reality headsets running on its PS4 home console and launched an improved version of its headset, Sony intends to strike hard in 2018 to establish itself as the undisputed leader in virtual reality games. The Japanese company has sent a press release to "Nikkei" announcing its desire to significantly increase its range of games on PlayStation VR.

In this press release published in Japanese, Sony wants to increase the number of games available on PS VR from 150 titles currently to 280 in the current year. 130 new games should therefore see the light of day during 2018, i.e. 80% more titles available in the catalog. An announcement that proves how much Sony believes in the potential of virtual reality and especially in its PlayStation VR headset. The Japanese firm also hopes to establish itself as a leader in virtual reality games as it has established itself with home consoles, in particular with the PlayStation 4 and the PlayStation 4 Pro on which the PS VR works.



Sony also relies on independent studios for its catalog

Of course, Sony will be responsible for developing a large number of titles but the Japanese home console giant also plans to rely on different studios to achieve its goal. With over 2 million PS VR headsets and sales continuing to skyrocket, Sony can now easily convince major studios to develop virtual reality games for the PlayStation VR.

Sony had already managed to convince Bethesda to develop "Skyrim VR" and "Doom VFR" for its PlayStation VR. These two titles are already real commercial successes and considered as AAA games. The publishers "Bandai Namco" and "Capcom" should also release major games soon. 60 games have already been announced for the year 2018. There are therefore 70 titles to discover and real surprises could be found there including future games considered as flagship, especially if large studios get started ...
