Summary

Virtual reality has the potential to transform the education sector. Thanks to this technology, it is, for example, possible to show people who are far away or difficult to access, or to train safely to perform tasks and manipulations in complex environments.

However, the new possibilities and perspectives offered by virtual reality are still unknown or confused by the general public and education professionals. This is the reason why the Universities Claude Bernard Lyon 1, Jean Moulin Lyon 3, the Jean Monnet University of Saint-Etienne and the software publisher Speedernet have decided to join forces to create the first French MOOC dedicated to VR: "Virtual reality and innovative teaching practices".

A French MOOC dedicated to virtual reality as an educational tool

The objective of this free online course is to introduce participants to educational issues and virtual reality technologiese. Through this program, it will be possible to discover how VR and 360 degree videos can be used as a learning modality.

Participants will be able to discover the different stages of the creation of educational applications in VR such as design, scripting, and interactivity. Thanks to a prototyping tool and assets provided, it will be possible for them to test, implement and produce.

This MOOC is aimed at anyone wishing to learn VR without computer knowledge, but especially to designers, professors, students, experts and trainers wishing to use this technology as part of their profession.

Classes will start on May 20, 2019 on France Université Numérique - Fun MOOC, and more than 5500 people have already registered. If you too wish to attend this online course, you can register until June 11, 2019 on the France Université Numérique platform at this address.
